Gentle, personal chiropractic care for Paxico
About 19 minutes (15.8 miles) from our St. Marys office
If you live or work in Paxico, Prairie Star Chiropractic is a short drive north to St. Marys, about 19 minutes from downtown. Dr. James Durbin, DC, opened the practice to give families across the area honest, drug-free care close to home. That includes farm families on the land around Paxico and Newbury, people whose workdays take them down I-70 toward Topeka or Manhattan, Wabaunsee USD 329 students and staff, and retirees who want to stay active.
Paxico packs a lot of history into a town of about 210 people. It took its name from Pashqua, a Potawatomi medicine man who lived on the banks of Mill Creek, and grew up beside the new railroad in 1886, when Old Paxico and Newbury came together. Today the storefronts of the Paxico Historic District along Newbury Avenue hold antique shops, the 1922 Paxico Rural High School was added to the National Register in 2022, and the twin steeples of Sacred Heart Church in Newbury, the “Cathedral of the Flint Hills,” can be seen from I-70. Each September the free Paxico Blues Festival fills downtown, and the Bolton Wildlife Preserve shows off the Mill Creek Valley.
Common reasons to come in include back pain after farm chores, neck pain from time behind the wheel and sciatica that makes sitting a chore. Dr. Durbin offers gentle chiropractic care, the low-force Activator Method and pediatric care for growing kids. Ready to start? Claim the $47 New Patient Special or book an appointment.

Local, personal care
Why choose Prairie Star Chiropractic from Paxico
Paxico sits along Mill Creek in Wabaunsee County, south of the Kansas River, and St. Marys is only about 19 minutes away. Paxico Road carries you to Schoeman Road and across the river on the Schoeman Road-Belvue Bridge, renovated in 2026, and then US-24 East brings you right to our door on W Bertrand St. The area's ties to St. Marys go back a long way: nearby Newbury's first Catholic church, built in 1874, was served by Jesuits from St. Marys.
Prairie Star Chiropractic is a new practice, and every visit with Dr. James Durbin, DC, starts the same way: he listens, examines what is actually going on and explains it in plain language before recommending anything. Care is gentle, personal and drug-free, and the plan is built around the life you want to get back to, whether that means a full day of farm chores, a comfortable drive on I-70, a season with the Wabaunsee Chargers or a September Saturday at the Paxico Blues Festival. The office is open Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm and 3:00pm to 6:00pm, and it is a self-pay practice with a $47 New Patient Special for first-time patients.
What we help with
Common reasons people in Paxico see a chiropractor
Low back pain from farm work
Lifting, bending and long days on equipment on the farmland around Paxico and Newbury can wear on the lower back. We look at how you move and build a gentle plan from there.
Learn more →Neck stiffness from time on I-70
Paxico sits about halfway between Topeka and Manhattan, a mile off I-70. If your week includes that drive, hours at the wheel can leave the neck and upper back tight.
Learn more →Sciatica after long hours seated
A tractor seat or a long commute can aggravate pain that runs from the low back into the leg. We check the spine and pelvis to look for what is behind it.
Learn more →Sprains and strains in Chargers sports
Paxico is part of Wabaunsee USD 329, home of the Wabaunsee Chargers. Young athletes can roll an ankle or pull a muscle over a busy season.
Learn more →Tension headaches from busy weeks
Work, school activities and errands can leave tension in the neck and shoulders that shows up as headaches. Gentle adjustments and trigger point work may help ease it.
